Virginia's Story

I was morbidly obese on my first day of bootcamp. Difficult words to write, but at 5’4” and 251 pounds, it was the truth. My best friend was having the latest lap band surgery and really wanted me to join her. I considered it, but I really wanted to give exercise and healthy eating one more try.

I began bootcamp April 2006 and have not stopped yet. My weight has came off slow but consistent.
Most times I am the last person in class but I am good with that. It means I showed up! Karen has always been there to cheer me on, give me other exercises when I could not keep up (in a discreet way) and pushed me to limits I thought I could not achieve.

DO NOT think you cannot do bootcamp if you are very overweight. I could barley walk around the track but now I can jog. Karen has also given me direction with my caloric needs and helped me with my food choices.

So for now I take 1 day at a time, trying to make most good choices along the way. Some other stats is total cholesterol was 215 now 162,Triglycerides was 160 now 102, HDL (good cholesterol) was 31 now 42.  I now weigh 145 and am steady replacing body fat with muscle.  WOW!

I am feeling so good I have begun training for a triathlon which I will compete in for the first time in April 2009.  Until then, I am doing some duathlons, bike races and 5K's as well as hired a swim coach to keep up with the demands.  My new body has given me a new outlook on life!
